Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 Tourbillon

Zenith, as their name would suggest, are a watchmaker at the very top of their game and they used the recent BaselWorld 2013 event to show off a new collection of watches from the Zenith pilot range, such as the stunning Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 Tourbillon pictured above.

You will be hard pressed to find a Swiss watchmaker more steeped in history and tradition than that of Zenith who were originally founded in 1855 by Georges Favre-Jacot and have produced highly precise timepieces of unparalleled quality for well over 150 years now.

This year’s BaselWorld event was the ideal platform for showcasing the latest timepieces from the Zenith Pilot range and, it goes without saying, the Swiss watchmakers most certainly did not disappoint. Exhibiting an impressive array of watches that will form the cornerstone of the collection for the remainder of 2013, it is fair to say that there was plenty of buzz and attention around the Zenith stall at this year’s BaselWorld.

One of the main reasons that there was so much buzz surrounding the Zenith stall was down to the fact that they had the Austrian daredevil, Felix Baumgartner, helping to promote their latest range of Zenith Pilot watches and the charismatic Baumgartner did a great job of generating excitement over the latest Zenith timepieces – check out Baumgartner on the Zenith stall below:

You can also see the watch that Baumgartner wore during his descent to earth late last year, which was also showcased at BaselWorld 2013, below:

The main focus for Zenith at this year’s BaselWorld event, however, was that of their latest series of Pilot watches and they certainly held their own in the face of stiff competition from the likes of Breitling, Hublot, Rolex and TAG Heuer, and emerged as some of the most popular watches unveiled at this year’s event. Take a look at some of these exceptional Zenith Pilot watches below:

Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 40 mm

Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 GMT Red Baron

You can view a selection of Zenith Pilot watches at The Watch Gallery.

The BaselWorld 2013 event was a resounding success with hundreds of breath-taking timepieces unveiled over the week but not many could hold a candle to the truly exemplary new range of Zenith Pilot watches which were, understandably, among the most well received at the event.

The name is utterly synonymous with the world of interior design and some of his furniture creations have gone on to become some of the world’s most respected and revered.

Charles Eames Lounge Chair

There are icons to be found in all walks of life, whether it be music, fashion or sport. So far as the world of design is concerned, they don’t come much more iconic than that of Charles Eames. The name is utterly synonymous with the world of interior design and some of his furniture creations have gone on to become some of the world’s most respected and revered. Put simply, Eames’ was one cool cat.

The piece of furniture for which Eames was perhaps most famed was that of the Charles Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman. This stunning piece of furniture is, let’s face it, an essential purchase for any man-cave, study or fortress of solitude. Originally design and released way back in 1956, it has gone on to become one of mainstays of contemporary, modern style properties. You’ll be hard pressed to find a more dapper chair for your home than the Eames Lounger and, trust me when I say, when you sit down in it, you won’t want to be getting up again anytime soon.

Eames originally designed his lounge chair and ottoman as a gift for his friend, the movie director, Billy Wilder, but it was obviously to epic a design to keep under wraps and sitting in just the one home so Charles Eames took the wise decision to bust it out on the wider market and its popularity positively sky-rocketed.
A brilliant example of how far ahead of his time Eames was as a designer, the lounge chair and ottoman, for which he was most famed, is a timeless reminder of his iconic and legendary status as a designer.
You can view more Charles Eames furniture from Swivel.

Chase Compton

Say hello to Chase Compton, an aspiring emcee coming out of Lawrence, Kansas. Chase has released three mixtapes so far throughout his young career. His first big show came when he was asked to open for Mac Miller, Kid Ink and Big KRIT in the summer of 2010. Chase has since then performed for the likes of Juicy J, Chevy Woods, Chris Webby, MGK, Curren$y, Talib Kweli, Asher Roth, Berner, and XV just to name a few. In 2012 Chase released the mixtape “Elevated Preview” and the first single “Acknowledge” received over 40 thousand views on Youtube. Wheat City reached out to talk music and college basketball. Read the interview below and see what Chase Compton had to say.

Q&A

WC: Chase Compton, what’s good?

Just working on these projects and living life!

WC: For those who are not familiar with Chase Compton, please enlighten them.

I’m a young creative artist on the rise trying to expand in every way.

WC: What inspired you to start writing lyrics and make Hip-Hop music?

Ever since I was a little kid I wrote raps, and poems, it was one of the only ways I felt I could express myself. When I would listen to a classic album or see a performance on TV I would be so inspired. Also, watching the Elvis videos my Grandfather got me made me really want to create music.

WC: When and what should we expect to hear from your album?

You will hear some singles and a mixtape from me in the near future, but the album will be on a bigger scale and everything will be ‘Elevated’ from production to lyrics.

WC: Describe the creative process for the music you create.

I write all the time even if it’s just on my phone at a stop light. But, when I’m alone and really zoned-in that’s when I just let the pen go crazy! I find inspiration everywhere though.

WC: Dream collaboration and why?

It’s so hard to just choose one but I always wanted to do something with 50 Cent.

WC: Aside from yourself, what other emcees or musicians should we look for coming out of your area?

There is a lot of talent in my area and the Midwest. To name a few I would look out for Rashiyd Ashon, Gee Watts, $taxx, Pyro, Mykell Vaughn, BdoubleE, Dutch Newman, Greg Enemy, and that is just a few off top of so many!

WC: Top 5 emcees.

No top five right now, crazy amount of good artists I’ve come across lately.

WC: Okay..coming from Kansas we have to ask this. Who’s bringing the NCAA Mens basketball Championship home next year?

Kansas Jayhawks! That’s who I rock with no matter what.

WC: Thanks for chopping it up with Wheat City. Any last words for the people?

Thank you I appreciate y’all checkin me out! Just be on the look out for new music and some big collabs.

I am absolutely crazy about time-lapse, stop motion, and slow-motion video so it is no surprise that “Yeah, New York” a short film by Gareth Pearson has sparked my interest. This project is centered around the concept of a more relaxed New York, by slowing down scenes and introducing some relaxing music Pearson is able to show a more happy go lucky side of NYC. Watch as New Yorkers enjoy sunny days in the park, fellow commuters company on subway platforms, and strolls by iconic land marks.

Today many people probably associate Eddie Murphy with children’s comedies or The Nutty Professor, however there was a time when Eddie Murphy was considered one of the best up and coming stand up comedians. In fact there where many people who thought so highly of him they compared him to a young Richard Pryor. Anyone who has ever seen Raw or Delirious, two of his stand up specials, knows exactly how raunchy and quick witted Eddie can truly be. I was rummaging around on youtube and happened to stubble across this video of a more subdued Eddie Murphy making his first appearance on “The Tonight Show” starring Johnny Carson. Check out the video and enjoy an important moment in comedy.

His mega hit for French Montana “Pop That” quickly became 2012′s summer anthem. This rapper turned producer is quickly establishing himself as a name to be reckoned with. DJ Khaled made sure to secure him to the stellar We The Best roster. Wheat City Mag talks with Lee about how life has changed since “Pop That” and industry challenges.

Q&A

WC: How has your life changed since “Pop That” became a radio single?

A lot has changed, some things for the better some things not as good. Overall I’m that kid that’s living the life I told people I’d have.

WC: Who you feel came with the strongest verse on Pop That?

I don’t think I’ll ever have the answer for that question. In my opinion everyone brought a different vibe to make the song what it is. I like all four verses equally.

WC: How did the collaboration come about with Ace Hood and Meek Mill for “Goin Down”?

Well when I first got here to Miami back in July I met with Khaled, Ace and the team. Khaled introduced me to Ace and that same day I played some records for him. He actually had the beat for months before he even recorded “It’s Goin Down”. The beat didn’t really catch him until a few days before dropping Starvation 2.

WC: Which artists are you currently working with?

I’m working with everyone right now. I’ve been trying to get in or send stuff to everyone dropping or working on a album.

WC: What artists would you like to collaborate with?

No doubt, Jay Z.

WC: Top 5 producers of all time.

I can’t really say of all time because that would include me. If you ask what are my top 5 producers, I’d say in no specific order; Just Blaze, Timbaland, Pharrell, Swizz Beatz and Kanye.

WC: What equipment are you using to produce?

I use a Axiom 49key Midi Controller and Fl Studio aka Fruity Loops.

WC: You originally wanted to become a rapper, how did you get into producing instead?

I actually never had beats when I was younger to rap on. My uncle used to have beat CD’s laying around that were used for his artist and sometimes they would be snippets. I started looping the dope parts of the snippets on Nero. From there I said, “fuck this what’s the easiest way to make beats”. I remembered a program I saw when I was about 10 or 11 years old. I called my uncle and asked him what it was he said “it’s Fruity Loops”. I went online saw the free download and that was it from there.

WC: In your opinion what are the biggest challenges facing a producer trying to break into the industry?

I think the biggest challenges are balancing reality with trying to live a dream. You have to put in 10 times as much work, not just behind the computer or whatever it may be making beats. You have to network and actually put yourself out there. Also you have to find that special thing about you and perfect it. Now a days everyone sounds too much alike, you have to find that separation and make it something people want and need. At the end of the day just remember there are no handouts.

WC: As an up and coming producer do you ever run across artists that you really don’t want to work with?

Some times but I’m a business so I can’t complain. That’s how I eat so I’ll work and do whatever it may be to get the artist a decent record.

WC: Being from Queens do you feel NY has its sound back? Or do you feel the sound has more of a down south vibe?

I think NY will always have it’s sounds. What’s in high demand may not be that sound but it is what it is. It’s called supply and demand.

WC: If you do feel NY has been having a southern vibe, how can you change that?

There isn’t much to do when almost 90% of artist’s on radio aren’t from NY. I think everyone has their time, and when it gets back to NY we’ll be ready.

WC: Do you feel your production alone can tell a story without words?

All the time people used to actually tell me I over produce to the point the beat didn’t need words. I’ve learned to create pockets though and I produce with that same mindset with enough room for vocals.

WC: Any last words?

Thank you for the time, and stay posted for the summer.
