Vokab Kompany

5 July 2012

So I had the recent pleasure of seeing the live homegrown band of San Diego Vokab Kompany who brought the house down at Gaslamp’s premiere club Stingaree last Tuesday night. Voted San Diego’s best hip hop band of 2011, Vokab Kompany is rapidly gaining notoriety nationwide with their electronic, dance, funk, hiphop style the group definitely has a sound of their own with a recipe of musicians to match their efforts. Emcees Robbie Gallo aka Rob Hurt, Matt Burke aka Burkey Baby, and sax player Jesse Molloy were the only present members Tuesday but none-the-less Vokab vs Crush Effect killed it. The energy they band brings to the stage is unmatched and you can only get a little choked up when you see relatively good white emcees bless the mic with the passing of late great Adam Yacht (MCA). Vokab Kompany is reviving what some may call the dying element of hiphop by combining their music with EDM and doing what most musicians do best, put on a wicked live performance. Although their album may not catch your ear as it may come off as wannabe rap but make no mistake these guys put on a good show. Check Vokab out below, learn by clicking here and if they’re playing in a town near your make sure to grab some tickets. Enjoy.
