For those not aware, could you please drop knowledge on what Hy-Tekk Productions embodies as a company?
Hy-Tekk Productions is a Kansas City grassroots production company that was founded by Chris Otter and Mike Jones in January of 2010. Our goal is to continuously progress the EDM culture in any way possible, through promoting, influencing, and lending a hand to the regional EDM scene; while at the same time hosting events involving world class talent mixed with some of the highest production quality around.
Over the past few years electro-music has increasingly gained attention and popularity while reaching a wider audience. Do you feel the electric music scene should stay more underground or continue its progression to mass appeal?
We feel Electronic Music going main stream is a positive progression. For many years, there has been a negative connotation on EDM culture and it’s following in America. When, in reality, it is just a bunch of people who want to dance, listen to music and have a good time while listening to dance music. It is safe to say that EDM, like most types of music, will always have it is underground artist and events but it is time for its genres to take off in America like it has in the UK.
Give us your definition of a Basshead.
A BASSHEAD is anyone who loves bass music!
How do you feel your group contributes in pushing electro-music creatively and musically?
We are involved with assisting several production/promotion companies around the nation in a number of ways. Recently we have been working with AEG, PIPELINE, MAMMOTH, GLOBAL DANCE, MCP PRESENTS, and C3. We often suggest artist to book, assist with partial artist management/bookings, help with branding, street teaming, promotions and more. We also have a video crew, NEZ Productions, whom produces videos as well as conducts interviews for a number of large artists. We also put out a FREE EP each quarter consisting of a handful of Midwest regional producers titled ‘HY-TEKK HEAVY HITTERS’
