Q&A w/ Stori

12 April 2012

New Jersey singer/songwriter STORi sits down with Wheat City to talk music. With her edgy lyrics and rhythmic melodies STORi instantly grabs the attention of any first time listener. Enjoy the interview and listen to her music below.

Q: Now for those not hip, give our viewers a brief description on your background?

A:Well, I’m a new artist on Motown from New Jersey.. Been singing, on my grind for years and now people are just starting to take notice.

Q: You can definitely rhyme but you also have a great singing voice. Is there one set of vocals you prefer over the other?

A:I could never choose. But singing my guts out has always been one of my favorite things to do. I do it every day.. I just prefer vocals. All of them.

Q: You recently inked a deal with Universal Motown. What’s the story behind that?

A:I started working with NextDay Ent. a few months ago and what seemed like a couple weeks later, we had almost every major knocking. It might have been a month or two, but it was crazy. Motown flew me out to LA. we did some recording, took some meetings, and after a little back and fourth it was a wrap!! They’ll never be the same now.

Q: What is STORi’s creative process when she enters the stu?

A:This varies. I have many different creative processes that I go through on a day to day.. Sometimes I like to draw for inspiration, sometimes I’ll dance around the studio like I forgot my meds, I might even give someone a spanking on the pool table, if you think you can play ping pong, bring that shit. And many many more, who knows what I’ll do to get my creative juices goin’ tomorrow.

Q:You’ve flipped classic records from Canibus and Queen Latifah just to name a few. All of which came out during that ‘golden era’ in music/hip-hop. Your sound is a reflection of those times. Which musicians you grow up listening to?

A:Man I gotta get better at this type of question. I was an iTunes store before that shit was a thought! I listened to everyone from BIG, Jay, Nas, FuGees to Green Day, Stevie Wonder, Nirvana, Madonna! Prince, the Beatles, SWV, MARIAH, there’s so much I’m leaving out, but I’m working on it.. Seriously listened to everything growing up. It’s actually borderline certifiable..

Q: Top 5 emcees currently in the game.

A: (In no particular order) Jay-Z, Asap Rocky, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Kanye…. Annnnd… ME! (Even though I spit a lil on the side, I think I should be the added bonus to this list.)

Q: Respect and much love for sitting down to politic with Wheat City. Any last words for the people?

A:Thanks for listening everybody! Stay tuned, cz shits about to get live!
