Falling Whistles
5 January 2012

For over a century the Democratic Republic of Congo has been a country subject to many atrocities making it one of the most dangerous places on Earth. Its natural resources make it the most desirable country for minerals used for your laptops and cell phones. It’s instable law, corrupt officials, and lack of law enforcement funding are just some of the contributing factors making Congo the world’s largest continued war since WW II.  Riddled in disease and poverty 1 in 5 of Congo’s children live to see the age of 5 and the life expectancy is 47 which makes a death toll of children higher than Chinas while over 200,000 women become the victim of sexual assault. Falling Whistles is the story of a philanthropist named Sean Carasso who set out to give shoes the people of Congo but in turn discovered a world issue that he could not turn a blind eye toward. He created a single journal entry that would forever change his life and others as he describes in grave detail the crimes and events that took place to 5 boys among others on the frontlines of war. Falling Whistles represents the weapon given to young men as they stand on the frontlines given nothing but a whistle and courage as they were brutally shot by either officers or rebels. In the mist of this onslaught it was made abundantly clear that in order for there to ever be peace in Congo people must speak up. Blow the whistle for peace. Blow the whistle against war. Blow the whistle for the children of Congo. Wheat City blows the whistle and if you’re like us say that you will not sit by ideally and watch the massacre of children and the genocide of a country. Congo is far from perfect but it isn’t far from peace, get involved and lets make it happen. Click here to help and donate.
